When you install ceiling fans in your home, one of the first things that you should check is whether they wobble or not. Wobbling is a fairly common problem that goes with these devices. The causes can be varied and it is important to know what they are so you can address them properly. A wobbly unit can pose some risks especially when there are attached light fixtures that could dislodge and land on someone’s head. Moreover, the blades can bump into the ceiling causing it to break and whip out shards on somebody.
One of the common causes for wobbling in ceiling fans is the uneven weight of the blades. When you come across this predicament, you may try rearranging the order of the blades. Sometimes it only takes a minor swapping of the order of the blades to get the correct distribution of weight.
If however the problem persists, you should try adding some balancing weights. The easiest way to determine which ones are unbalanced is to put a clothespin or clip on one of the blades and have the fan running on slow speed. Continue doing this until you get to the blade which causes the wobbling. Then, purchase balancing kits which you can conveniently glue or clip into your fans.
Another cause of this problem is having warped blades. This could be brought about especially during transport and shipping. To determine if some of the blades are indeed warped, try to lay them down on the flat surface. If you see that they fail to lie flat and there are visible spaces that you can see underneath them then you should contact the manufacturer and obtain a replacement.
Lastly, check whether the fans are indeed secured firmly to the ceiling. Maybe in your haste and excitement, you fail to put one more screw that would hold the fan securely to the junction box. If that is the case, grab extra screw from your toolbox and bolt your fan firmly in place.
